Users reported Wednesday that they were having trouble accessing a number of Meta’s social media apps, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads and Messenger, according to trouble tracking service Downdetector.

“Meta services, including Facebook and Instagram, are currently experiencing an ongoing outage that began at approximately 17:55 UTC,” tech services company Cisco ThousandEyes wrote on Wednesday afternoon. “ThousandEyes is detecting internal server errors and timeouts. This may indicate an issue with Meta’s backend services. Network connectivity to Meta’s frontend web servers is not affected.”

As of 2:45 p.m., thousands of users of Meta’s app were still reporting problems accessing the service, but the number of reports had decreased by late afternoon. As of 4:20 p.m. ET, Downdetector for Facebook had approximately 4,000 outage reports.
