Rebecca Wisocky on ‘Ghosts’: Heritage Reveal and Renewed Success
Rebecca Wisocky, known for her role as Hetty Woodstone in CBS’s comedy series “Ghosts,” recently shared insights into her character’s unexpected heritage and the show’s bright future, following its renewal for two additional seasons.
Heritage Discovery in ‘Ghosts’
In a recent episode, Hetty Woodstone learns about her Irish ancestry—a shocking twist for a character previously disdainful of those with Irish roots. Wisocky remarked, “This kind of character is best when she gets her comeuppance, when she’s proven wrong. She does a Woodstone 180 on this one. That was her horror, to discover that she was Irish. And of course now she’s embraced and become a hibernophile.”
Interestingly, Wisocky had hinted at this narrative direction during an earlier appearance on “CBS Mornings”. When shown a clip of her prediction regarding Hetty’s Irish identity, she confirmed she had no prior knowledge of this storyline. “I absolutely didn’t,” added Wisocky, commending the writers for crafting such engaging character arcs.
Distinctive Vocal Performance
During the interview, Wisocky elaborated on her unique vocal approach for Hetty, stating, “I approach work in a musical way. The way her voice is written and the cadence and the way she changes her mind in the middle of a sentence, it seemed obvious that she would have this voice that would go all these different places.”
Symbolic Moments and Fan Appreciation
Wisocky donned a special shamrock brooch during her appearance, a token from her father’s first gift to his mother approximately 70 years ago. “I think this is the first time I’ve worn it,” she remarked.
The popularity of “Ghosts” has been notable, leading CBS and Paramount+ to renew the show for two more seasons. Wisocky expressed her gratitude for the ongoing support from both the network and the audience, highlighting the show’s ability to blend humor with significant themes. “It’s laugh-out-loud funny, but you can have interesting, sensitive conversations about deeper themes on the show, so we’re real proud of that,” she stated.
