SharkNinja Recalls 1.8 Million Pressure Cookers Due to Burn Injury Reports
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of 1.8 million pressure cookers manufactured by SharkNinja, following over 100 reports of burn injuries linked to the device. This safety alert includes more than two dozen lawsuits filed against the company due to serious burn incidents.
Understanding the Risks
Among the reported injuries, around 50 incidents involved severe second- or third-degree burns, affecting consumers’ faces and bodies. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, third-degree burns are the most severe kind, capable of damaging not only the outer layers of skin but also underlying structures such as muscles and bones.
The primary issue prompting this recall is a malfunction that allows the pressure cooker lid to be opened while in operation. This malfunction can lead to hot food and steam escaping, posing an immediate burn risk to users.
Affected Products
The recall specifically targets the SharkNinja Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Pressure Cooker. This line, which also features air frying capabilities, includes about 1.85 million units sold in the U.S. and approximately 184,000 in Canada. The devices are identifiable by their model numbers, which can be found on a label located on the side of the cooker. The model numbers included in the recall are:
- OP300
- OP301
- OP301A
- OP302
- OP302BRN
- OP302HCN
- OP302HAQ
- OP302HW
- OP302HB
- OP305
- OP305CO
- OP350CO
Replacement lids purchased separately for these models are also included in the recall.
