If you’re a YouTube TV subscriber, your monthly bill will be high again.
Alphabet Inc.’s YouTube is raising prices on its popular TV streaming service, which has more than 8 million subscribers. Starting in January, platform fees will jump from $72.99 to $82.99 per month.
YouTube TV’s recent price increases are due to higher content costs, the company said.
“We did not make this decision lightly and recognize the impact this will have on our members. We are committed to delivering features that change the way you watch live TV. ,” YouTube TV said in part in an email to subscribers on Thursday. .
This price increase will be reflected in members’ first billing cycle after January 13th. Subscribers can see which plan they are subscribed to by checking their account membership settings.
YouTube acknowledged that some viewers may decide to unsubscribe in light of the price increase, and reminded customers that they can do so at any time.
YouTube followed other major streaming services in raising prices for consumers this year. In August, Disney increased the price of both ad-supported and ad-free Disney+ services by $2. The ad-supported subscription costs $9.99, while the ad-free version costs $15.99 per month. It also increased the price of the Hulu + Live TV bundle.
Apple TV+, Disney+, and Paramount+ have also raised prices, offered new service tiers, and cracked down on password sharing (CBS News is owned by Paramount Global, which also provides the streaming service Paramount+).
And more and more streamers are using bundles to participate in live-action. YouTube TV’s new price of $82.99 is the same price advertised for Disney’s Hulu + Live TV bundle.
YouTube TV has repeatedly raised prices since its launch in 2017, with subscriptions starting at $35 per month. By 2019, the monthly cost was $50. YouTube last increased its prices in March 2023, to $72.99.
