Plush Ritual: Elevating Towel Care with a Sustainable Refresh Subscription

Plush Ritual is redefining towel care with a refresh subscription that focuses on hygiene, sustainability, and reducing waste.

Every morning, millions of people reach for their towels, often unaware of the invisible buildup of moisture, residue, and minerals that slowly break down the fibers. Most households only replace towels when they already look worn out. Plush Ritual, a towel refresh subscription, is changing that pattern. Cofounded by husband and wife duo Preston and Hartley Lynn, this San Diego company is turning towels from a basic bathroom item into an intentional part of daily hygiene and wellness.

The Birth of Plush Ritual

The idea for Plush Ritual came from frustration. After investing in luxury towels that felt soft at first but soon turned rough and less absorbent, Preston and Hartley realized the problem was not just price, it was the lack of a real care system. Moisture, oils, detergent residue, and minerals from hard water build up in towel fibers long before they show visible wear, affecting both feel and cleanliness.

“We started Plush Ritual because we were tired of paying luxury prices for towels that lost their softness after just a few months,” says cofounder Preston Lynn. “Towels sit at the crossroads of skin care and home care. They touch your clean skin every day, yet most people only replace them when they look worn out, not when their hygiene and fibers have broken down.”

Seeing this gap, the Lynns used their experience from their first business, SABAL Swim, to create a towel brand built around planned refresh and responsible reuse, not just a one time purchase.

Rethinking Towel Care

Most towel brands focus on color palettes and thread counts. Plush Ritual starts with a different question: how do towels stay clean and feel good over time?

“Our towels are designed to feel fluffy, absorbent, and comforting, turning the simple act of stepping out of the shower into a spa like moment,” says cofounder Hartley Lynn. “But equally important is giving customers a simple plan to refresh before the towels are past their best.”

Plush Ritual offers a refresh subscription that keeps towel replacement on an easy schedule. Customers choose a plan that sends new towels every 4, 6, or 9 months. Each shipment includes a prepaid return label so customers can send back their older towels. Returned towels are washed and donated when possible, or handled through responsible channels when they can no longer be reused, which helps reduce landfill waste.

Instead of selling towels once and hoping customers replace them years later, Plush Ritual builds refresh and responsible reuse into the product itself, which sets it apart from traditional towel brands.

“The subscription is about more than just getting new towels,” Hartley says. “It removes the guilt and guesswork. Customers know they are refreshing on a healthy schedule and that their old towels are being put to better use than just sitting in a closet or going straight to the trash.”

A Self Funded Success Story

Before launching Plush Ritual, the Lynns cofounded SABAL Swim, a swimwear brand created for women with smaller bust sizes. SABAL Swim now ships worldwide and serves customers in all 50 states. Building that brand without outside funding taught them how to listen closely to customers, refine fit and fabric, and create a loyal community.

“We built SABAL Swim one customer at a time, and we are bringing the same approach to Plush Ritual,” says Hartley. “This is a product people use every day, so the details matter.”

Simple, Sustainable, Effective

At its core, Plush Ritual is about better towel hygiene and a smarter cycle for replacement. The brand makes it easy to upgrade to spa level towels, then refresh on a predictable schedule without adding to the pile of old linens at home.

The prepaid return label included in each subscription shipment is a key part of the model. Customers send back their old towels in the same mailer, and Plush Ritual takes care of the rest. Whenever possible, towels are washed and donated. When they reach the end of their usable life, they are diverted from the trash through more responsible channels.

“We want to change the way people think about towels,” says Preston. “By offering high quality towels and an easy refresh plan, we are helping customers upgrade their hygiene routine while also cutting down on waste.”
